Removed California Adopt-A-Highway sign from the I-105 Freeway
12 feet by 4 feet by 4 feet

In 1989, the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) launched the Adopt-A-Highway program for state highways. The program operates under two distinct adoption methods: volunteering, which allows any individual or group to adopt a portion of a freeway to clean monthly; and sponsoring, where an individual or group outsources labor to clean freeways. Both the volunteer and sponsor methods grant the Adopter to showcase their name on a sign.

Programs like Adopt-A-Highway displace the responsibility of freeway cleanliness onto individuals and private companies rather than the state. The Adopt-A-Highway program currently does not have any goals to improve air pollution on the freeway and is solely dedicated to litter removal. [1]

The removal of the Adopt-A-Highway sign renders the advertisement incentive of the program useless.
